I’m off to vacation for the rest of the week, so likely won’t be posting in the interim. Happy early Labor Day everyone!
For today’s topic:
A lot of folks probably saw the article from NYT earlier this month which detailed college grads going straight to China after graduation, with little knowledge of the language or relevant skills, but rather an interest in capitalizing on an emerging market. (See post at http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/11/business/economy/11expats.html.) What do you think of this? What opportunities are there for lawyers (particularly litigators) in China?
I’ve always wondered about this, as legal skills and litigation prowess seem difficult to transplant. How would my familiarity with the process and procedure of litigation in the United States serve me in China, given a different framework? How would my legal research and writing skills translate effectively in China? Would I just show up, the way some of these young folks have done, with a daring Wild West attitude and hope for the best?
Comments welcome.
